Leading digital well log data provider welcomes 23-year energy tech executive

HOUSTON, TX (December 10, 2001) - A2D Technologies, a leading petroleum well log data, software, and data management services company, announced today that David Armitage, founder and former CEO of GeoGraphix, has joined the company as CEO effective December 1, 2001.

"I am joining the team at A2D because I see a remarkable opportunity to influence the data coverage, workflow and efficiency of one of the most strategically important industries in our economy," said Armitage. "The significance of a national digital well log repository cannot be underestimated. By tightly coupling software technologies which facilitate access to and analysis of this critical data, we can impact the discovery and management of domestic reserves."

The proven A2D management team continues with co-founder Dave Kotowych as president & chief operating officer, Kim Boddy as executive vice president, and Bill Ross as senior vice president.

"In today's competitive environment, energy companies are focused on looking for ways to lower exploration and development expenditures," said Kotowych. "A2D is ambitiously building a single, industry-standard repository of quality well log data that will expand globally based on our objectives for 2002. Our demonstrated commitment and unique operational strengths under David's visionary leadership will allow even more directed efforts on building this tremendously valuable data asset."

Armitage adds, "The A2D database is vastly more complete than any other. And, when combined with the utility of the A2D internet LOG-LINE® delivery system, offers exactly what the entire industry seeks - better decisions. The oil and gas industry is in the midst of a revolutionary shift that will transform the very processes and techniques we use to explore and produce hydrocarbons. I am excited to join this team and to contribute to their vision and strategy. The technologies we enable at A2D will profoundly influence the productivity of geoscientists."

In 1984, Armitage founded GeoGraphix, one of the first firms to deliver a 3D GIS modeling system and a pioneer in the use of desktop mapping technology. After GeoGraphix was purchased by a division of Halliburton in 1994, Armitage founded Qubit, a consumer technology firm providing innovative Internet access devices for the home.

Armitage holds BS degrees in economics and geology from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, and has extensive field experience as an exploration geologist.
